A 3.30am start, chest waders and enough bug spray to ward off the hungriest of mosquitoes (or so I hoped…) were well worth it! As the Camargue Gardians moved their herd across the marsh, the rising sun reached the perfect position to create a stunning sunburst around the head of the lead horse.
The decision to make this image black and white was an easy one. The simplicity of the sky, the clean, dark line of the marsh vegetation stretching across the background, and the subtle texture of the water all work together to draw the eye straight to the horses.
