Hot Sculpted Glass and Metal Stand. 6 x 11.5 x 4in. 2026.

After picking up surfing again this last year- I have began to think about sharks more in my day to day life. After a few encounters out on my surf board- they became something I started to fear in the water. I started to make sharks teeth as a way to overcome this fear and reclaim some power in the hot shop.
They are solid and hot sculpted out of glass. I layer powders of glass on the surface to give them a realistic touch and carve in every line and detail while its hot. We work with the glass at 2,100 degrees and if it ever becomes under 900 degrees it cracks and breaks- so it is a very fragile dance for such a strong item. Once they are completed, I will sometimes sandblast to give a matte finish - which also feels like a connection to the ocean.

About the artist

Grace Chepenik

Grace Chepenik is a Florida-based artist working in blown glass and painting, whose work celebrates the energy of nature and the connections between spirit and world. Her dynamic pieces draw on forms such as orchids, shells, foliage, and other organic elements, using color, light, and movement to evoke the living essence of her subjects.

A native of Jacksonville, Florida, Chepenik first pursued painting before discovering glassblowing in 2018, a medium that deeply transformed her artistic voice. Her maternal grandmother, a celebrated watercolor artist, passed down her love for art. Her work reflects both her Florida roots and her experiences in South Florida and abroad, honoring the vitality of natural environments through bold color, fluid form, and expressive surface.

Chepenik holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture and Painting from the University of Miami and has exhibited her work nationally and internationally. She is represented by Artisa Art Gallery in Aruba, Palm Beach Design Showroom, Miles Art Gallery in Jupiter, Florida and she serves as Hot Shop Manager at the Benzaiten Center for Creative Arts in Lake Worth Beach, Florida.
