Sonjie is interested in the phenomenon of awe in response to our natural world and aim to echo patterns and elements in nature to evoke feelings of calm, wonder and peace. The processes she creates are metaphors for my lived personal stories and the actual processes that create our physical and emotional environments.

Born in Manila, Philippines, grew up in New York City and St. Louis, Sonjie currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. Before earning a BFA in Industrial Design with Honors from The Rhode Island School of Design, she received a BSBA from Georgetown University and worked in traditional and digital advertising as a copywriter. In April, she left my position as an exhibition designer for the Brooklyn Museum to focus on her studio practice.
