Description
Oil on linen. 24" x 36". White wood floater frame.
On Cambodia's Tonle Sap Lake, an entire community rises and falls with the water itself. Homes perch on towering stilts or drift freely on bamboo rafts, forming a village complete with floating schools, markets, pagodas, and even hardware stores. Longtail boats serve as streets and sidewalks; children paddle themselves to school in canoes and repurposed plastic tubs.
The rhythm of life here follows the lake's own breathing — swelling to the doorsteps each wet season, retreating each dry season to reveal the full height of the stilts beneath. It's a place shaped by scarcity — clean water, electricity, and healthcare are far from guaranteed — and yet what meets you first is warmth: resourcefulness, resilience, and an openness to welcome a stranger in. This painting is a tribute to that spirit.
