Gallery Tour: Sisters Behind the Gallery

From Shared Eye to Shared Space

Atelier Modern wasn’t born in a boardroom.
It started with a shared feeling: why is it so hard to find beautiful, meaningful pieces that feel personal—and aren’t trapped behind velvet ropes or cold design stores?

We’re Ana and Sarah—sisters, business partners, and co-founders of Atelier Modern. We built this gallery in Larchmont to answer that question. It’s a place where fine art and functional objects live side by side. Where beauty is accessible, not intimidating. And where design doesn’t just look good—it feels like home.

This is the story of how we got here.

Why We Started Atelier Modern

We both come from creative and civic backgrounds—Ana from the world of fine art and global collecting, and Sarah from leadership and a love of making things by hand.

After years of seeing the art world from the inside, Ana knew how exclusive it could feel. Even for seasoned collectors, the process was often intimidating and opaque. Meanwhile, Sarah saw how everyday design—what you actually live with—was often either soulless or out of reach.

Together, we imagined a new kind of gallery. One that feels warm. Welcoming. Grounded in community, but inspired by the world.

We wanted a space where you could see a Warhol and a Yarnimal in the same breath—and where every object on a shelf could be as moving as the piece on the wall.

Meet Ana

Ana Zampino O’Neill brings the art world down to earth. A classically trained vocalist turned global art advisor, Ana began her career at Christie’s in New York, where she trained as a live auctioneer and developed a sharp eye for what makes a piece timeless.

Her law degree from NYU allowed her to advise collectors with both creative insight and practical savvy. But more than credentials, Ana leads with empathy—helping clients commission, collect, and live with art that feels like theirs.

Her favorite piece?
Senza Titolo I, 1987 by Sam Francis—the first major work she ever purchased, and a reminder that collecting is about connection, not perfection.

“Great art shouldn’t be locked away. It should be part of your daily life.”

Meet Sarah

Sarah Bauer is Atelier’s experience designer, mayor (literally), and chief community-builder. A practicing attorney and longtime civic leader, she brings structure, heart, and the kind of joy that comes with placing a hand-crocheted “Yarnimal” just so.

Sarah’s creative roots go deep: she learned needlepoint from her husband’s grandmother, and she’s been stitching with love ever since. Her eye for color, play, and personality comes through in everything from our product curation to our gift wrap.

“Design should make you smile. It should feel like a reflection of who you are.”

Favorite Art + Object Right Now

Ana’s Pick:

The Berlingot Box Set

I love how sculptural they feel. You don’t need to explain them—they just belong, whether at a breakfast table or beside a wheel of brie.”

Sarah’s Pick:

The Sorrento Bowl

There’s something meditative about it. The movement in the resin, the weight in your hands—it’s a piece you return to, even when it’s empty.”

A Space Built for You

Atelier Modern isn’t just a gallery. It’s a place to gather, learn, and find things that speak to you—whether that’s a bold piece of original art or the perfect set of taper candles for your Sunday night ritual.

We created this space because we couldn’t find it anywhere else.
Now we’re so glad to share it with you.
