Description
Oil on canvas. 36" x 24". Unframed. 2026
Created as part of Pepa González’s tribute to the 100th anniversary of New York City’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, *Popeye and Friends* captures the joy, nostalgia, and larger-than-life spectacle of one of the city's most beloved traditions.
Against a vibrant blue sky and a richly detailed Manhattan skyline, familiar cartoon characters float above the streets as if taking part in the parade itself. Pepa contrasts the playful simplicity of the characters with the intricate architectural lines of New York's buildings, creating a lively composition that celebrates both the city's energy and the magic of childhood imagination.
Painted in oil on canvas, the work reflects Pepa's distinctive artistic style: bold colors, strong outlines, whimsical imagery, and an affectionate interpretation of urban life. It invites viewers to rediscover the excitement of watching the Thanksgiving parade, when familiar characters become monumental figures floating between skyscrapers and the city itself becomes a stage for celebration.
Above all, *Popeye and Friends* is a celebration of shared memories, childhood wonder, and the enduring spirit of New York City.
