When I bought this Elephant Ear plant, I knew right away that I wanted to paint it - the leaves looked like a painting in real life! When I got it home and put it on the mantelpiece and one of the huge leaves flopped to one side, I knew I had my composition.
The light is more subtle in this painting than is typical for me and that is because I wanted this to be a very simple composition focused on the quiet drama of the plant and the orange bowl in which it is sitting.
