Fine art photograph with museum acrylic and walnut frame. 55" x 37"

I took this photograph in 2019. I was on the Isle of Arran in between a relocation with my family from New York to Toronto. It had been a crazy few months - with some more in front of us - so I’d been looking forward to unwinding for a few days on the island I’d grown up holidaying on. I headed out before sunrise one morning with a couple of key stops in my mind.

Lochranza was the last one and I couldn’t have timed it more perfectly. I wouldn’t be able to count the number of times I’ve visited, driven past or explored the castle, but I had never seen it quite like this. The tide was so far out that it revealed an immense carpet of seaweed and the light from the sunrise brought out the beautiful golden tones.

The steely sky was the perfect pairing. For me, Scotland is at its best when it’s moody and dramatic. I couldn’t have asked for a better display than what I witnessed on this particular morning.
