In this painting I wanted communicate the vigor and freshness of early spring as it is expressed in this section of my border at home. I emphasized the range of greens from acid to blue by setting them off against the dark, damp soil.

Even though there is quite a lot of detail in this painting, I tried to keep it sketchy and messy, just as it is in real life: a fleeting moment that will look completely different after the next spring shower.
