Description

Acrylic paint, gel prints, and collage on reverse of plastic sheeting, mounted to art board. 30"x30"x7"

Made in 2024. "Neon Vincent's Massage Parlor" is a large soft sculpture that explores humor, absurdity, and the peculiar nature of being alive. The title itself, deliberately ridiculous, reflects the odd and often surreal circumstances of existence, especially when compared to the vastness of experience.

At the very edges of the sculpture, almost hidden, are green-and-yellow prints made from a vintage Playboy cartoon. Their placement on the margins invites discovery rather than demanding attention, subtly emphasizing the interplay between what is obvious and what is overlooked. The prints act as a quiet reminder of the absurdity embedded in the work.

The sculpture’s soft forms twist and flow in shades of green and yellow, embodying the idea of "greenness"—growth, renewal, and energy, but also innocence or inexperience. The colors and textures work together to create a sense of movement and life, encouraging the viewer to explore both the physical piece and its underlying themes.

By blending humor and reflection, "Neon Vincent's Massage Parlor" invites viewers to consider the tension between the ridiculous and the meaningful, the center and the edges, and the small, hidden moments that make up the larger experience of being here.
